Do you know, I only took one photo before 4pm today .

We set an alarm to make sure we wouldn’t sleep through the hotel breakfast that I had reserved in advance (it ended at 10am). Luckily, it was worth getting up for.
Sean and River liked making breakfast sandwiches out of croissants and scrambled eggs. And Sesnnthought he was smuggling two hard boiled eggs for later in River’s pockets, but when he cracked them in the afternoon they were both raw! We only found out the next morning that they have a hot water bath of sorts where you boil it yourself to your liking. We had a good laugh about that.
Then we went back to the room and fell back asleep for two hours. Actually, I think Bo made a nook in the bathroom to draw and listen to her audiobook.

When we got up we all went out to browse the shops. We split up at some point and River lucked out seeing some people we know! He hears someone call his name and it’s his old piano teacher Dave, his wife Sandy (who works at my school), and two of their grandchildren having ice cream! They knew we would be in this part of France, and that our trips would overlap, but they are staying at a family property 45 minutes away from Strasbourg, so we were not expecting to cross paths. It was pretty cool for River. Later he tried to bring me back to see them, but they were already gone.
Let’s see. Bo found a beautiful necklace. We ate the best chocolate chip cookies we’ve ever had, from a patisserie. I tried on (but did not buy) linen clothing. We chatted with shopkeepers.
Then we rested again at the hotel. And the kids got hungry for dinner. We got them take-away Vietnamese food and made them a “Siblings Cafe” on our balcony.

Sean was basically passed out on one of the bunk beds. River decided to stay in and watch a movie while dad caught up in lots of late nights and heavy packs. Bo and I decided to have a date night on the town.

I wanted to see the Strasbourg Cathedral and walk along the river. It was a beautiful night, with lots of people out and about in the old town (called Petite France). Many shops were closed, but we enjoyed window shopping.

There was a brass polka-style band in one square, and surprise views down every side street.

Then we saw the cathedral. It is really awe inspiring. The amount of detail in the stonework, the soaring height, the sheer majesty of it all—it was a sight to behold.

We walked around to see it from different angles.

The sun was getting low in the sky as we walked towards to water.

The river walk was out of a postcard. Lots of dates happening along the water.

We saw several couples dancing in this open space beside the water.

I was getting hungry now, so we started back towards our place.

We stopped at a Lebanese place I had scoped out earlier for a platter of mezze that was top notch. I’ve never had better babaganoush (though it was called something different).

We probably shouldn’t have shared an espresso from the hotel lobby for dessert, because despite having sore feet, and both boys already being in dreamland, we both had trouble falling asleep. I wonder how many miles we’ve walked over these past four weeks . . .
