This place is stunning.
Like a secret paradise in the Pyrenees.
It was nearly impossible to get to without a car, but we did it! This morning that meant:
- A cab to the bus station (we weren’t doing that walk with bags a second time)
- A bus to Bagneres-de-Bigorre (a super cute town we would return to—we walked to a supermarket and the cheese, yogurt, and jam sections were three times the size of a grocery store in the US!)

- A second cab (driven by our guardian angel Mimi) to our Gite, because the first bus was late by just a few minutes, but missed the connecting bus we needed. The next local bus wasn’t for 3 hours, so we decided to spring for the cab.

Our joy at reaching our destination (a day late), was immense.
Shower, baguette with cheese and jam, fresh cucumber, and a nap were restorative.

After mom woke up from her nap, River and Bo showed her the beautiful cascades and small lake they found (Sean was still sleeping). We went exploring, but mom needed a break from her phone (so much logistical scrambling yesterday and today), so no photos. We will likely return in the morning.
Then we came back to our place to relax on the lawn chairs, pet the dogs, drink a beer. It was heaven.

Dinner was a fun, family-style meal with all the guests sitting at a long table, sharing from platters of food. I had a wonderful glass of Bordeaux wine, there was fresh mozzarella and tomato first, then beef and garlic fried potatoes, the a plate of mountain cheese (related to Gruyère?), and then a baked dessert that smelled like popovers and had an almond filling. Delicious.
We sat outside afterwards, and then mom’s new friends from Singapore invited her to share their bottle of wine from Champagne region.

Such a perfect evening in the foothills.
